Homeschool Guidelines
Here at Christian Resources – Home School and More (Home Schoolers Resource) Web site we would like to offer you the follow guidelines for setting up your own personal Home School. These guidelines are only suggestions or helps to give you some encouragement as you start home schooling your children:
1.) Spend some time praying and seeking God’s wisdom, James 1:5
2.) Set up a plan or schedule on “How I will teach my children or child”. Most schools require an 180 day school year or more.
3.) Check with your local school board for their requirements for Home Schools. Teens in high school will need to know what is required for Graduation, how many credits the school system requires. Example: 2, 3, or 4 years of English, Math, History (Government),etc.
4.) Check out your State’s Laws for home schooling. There is a link on the Home page to help you with this.
5.) Evaluate your home and choose an area where you can set up you own home school. You should try and make this area resemble a school room as much as possible. Things you could add to your room are desk(s) or table; comfortable chairs; chalk board; activity board with posters, calendar, fun pictures, etc., maps or globe, resource books, and a good computer.
6.) Choose or decide what Home School curriculum you will be using. Some Home Schoolers use more than one depending upon the Child’s learning ability. We recommend that you only use one or two sources of curriculum to avoid confusion. We have provided a product and resource page to help you with you decision. If you are still confused feel free to e-mail us and we will try to help you with this decision.
7.) Once you receive your Home School materials review them before you get started. Some of the curriculum has a planner attached or comes with a planner guide on how to set up your daily goals, what the child should cover in each text book.
8.) Have a daily schedule to help you keep on schedule. An example of this as follows may vary depending what grade the child is in.
Example of day in Christian Home School:
* 8:15 – 8:30 Opening, pledges and prayer (Pledges can be found on sub link)
* 8:30 – 9:15 Bible
* 9:15 - 10:00 Math
* 10:10 – 10:15 Break
* 10:15 – 11:00 English
* 11:00 – 11:45 Spelling
* 11:45 – 12:30 Lunch Break
* 12:30 – 1:15 History
* 1:15 – 2:00 Science
* 2:00 – 2:45 Reading/ Art
9.) Create an exciting learning day for your child.
10.) Through out the year plan two learning field trips with your child. Examples: Zoo, Museums, history sites, etc. Have them write a short report about their trip.
11.) Keep Records and files of completed work. This will be used to report to your school board what you have taught your children and records for college once they attend.
12.) Be diligent. Find other home schoolers in your area for support and encouragement. There may even be a Home Schoolers organization in your area.
